Those "apologizes" were clearly written by the kid's lawyers. The lady being bullied was smart enough not to feed into those monsters and get pissed and retaliate. She is an even bigger person for not wanting them to have criminal charges filed against them or having them kicked out of school. I really hope she gets to sit down with them (this is what she wants) and gets to look at them face to face and ask what they were thinking??!!

Well doesn't it seem like everyone on Dlisted had a traumatic childhood? Here's my story: I was an immigrant, I couldn't speak the fucking language, I had no friends, skinheads spit on me and threw their lunches on me. Yes, Karen was probably the most inappropriate person to be designated a bus monitor but why was she hired in the first place? No blame will be given to the school district? Really I don't give a fuck because all I see is someone who doesnt have the strength to defend herself against abuse. That's what it boils down to and that's why I care . Lots of blame can go around but all I see is a wounded woman and I can't help but feel for her.

Number one, if they hired a black woman to be the bus "monitor", this shit wouldn't go down like it did. Oh hell no!

Second, what kind of "monitor" was she? It's clear she wasn't actively monitoring anything, but rather, lounging around looking out the window.

Thirdly, it didn't seem she was crying at all. She kept smiling at them, sneering and almost egging it on. Now let me preface I am NOT saying she deserved that treatment. I'd fuck those kids up so bad they'd be eating their meals through a straw for the rest of their lives.

But it didn't seem she was crying. She almost enticed them to keep it up by not stopping it. Get up, stop the bus, demand something be done. Call their parents, hell I'd get off the bus with them and walk to their house! Call the cops!

I'm glad she's got some help to go on a trip, but I'd be lying to say I'm a bit pissed to see her get half a million for taking some kid's shit. As a child of a traumatic youth, I can say what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

I'd also like to know how this video was leaked and how the guy running the fundraiser saw it.

Good for her for not accepting or even acknowledging that these crafted released statements are apologies. That is not an apology. To 'Amend' means to make right, which is an action not a lame apology. Let's see how these little azzholes change. When I went to public high school in Western New York most kids never went to the bathroom, boys or girls. If you did, the gang of bullies that skulked in there most of the day would grab you and push your head into the toilet (sometimes full of feces) for a 'swirlie'. Many of us just stopped all fluids during the day and waited until we got home. This is one of the softer bullying stories of the several I have from growing up in this cesspool part of the world. There are generations of bullies raising bullies there.

i was mercilessly bullied in sixth grade by some bitch who thought it would make her sloppy ass popular, and yeah my teacher had a hand in it as well. am i crying now because this woman's story made national headlines and they didnt have facebook when i was young? no. i got over it. this is the shit that happens these days. yeah it would have been great if she could stand up and say fuck that im not taking this sitting down, but really - do you think those kids would have sat down and shut up anyway? no fucking way. the brats these days are just fueled by that shit. well now their asses got caught. and more kids will continue to get caught. and the sixth grader in me silently rejoices every time this happens. fuck these little bitches and their fucked up home lives. if karen's got money coming to her for dealing with it, i cant hate her for it. it just shows a lot of people care about this shit. not everyone knows this stuff goes on. and that's all i have to say about this.

Okay... so I finally get it now.

Teachers are frazzled, can't do their jobs and are bordering on sainthood. Parents are in the way of theses saints getting their halos and pointing blame at everyone else but themselves for their children's shortcomings. This woman on the bus couldn't do anything to stop what was happening to her, especially since they could have totally overpowered her while that horrible bus driver did nothing. They could have totally killed her. Unless she had a gun or some pepper spray, there was nothing she could do. Facebook caught the kids red handed. BAM $500K falls in the woman's lap. Good for her, she deserves it, what a sweetheart... awww... kittens. Guilt removed from society since she got money from us.

Any of the apologies those kids offer will be refused because there is NO WAY they could ever feel remorseful, ever. Never. Ever. Kids are big meanies who cannot be stopped and shall rule the world as uneducated, worthless little shits when really they should be paddled and put into schools that are more like boot camp or jail than schools. Hit them! They need to feel pain!

The bureaucracy in the school system is so corrupt and principals are SO scared of getting sued that nothing can be done, it won't get better and nobody cares except for the teachers, but they just can't get past the red tape. But when something bad happens to someone, but not everyone, just someone we think would make a good story, we should put them on CNN, run stories about them and set up a donation fund for them. If you give money, you get into heaven! Yay!

So... really... none of you sees the hypocrisy in this?? Just a little?

When I was 7 and put in a very small private school, the owner/teacher pinched me, hit me and belittled me in front of the other kids for not spelling a word right or for being too chubby... whatever she felt like that day. I felt unsafe and had major trust and anxiety issues because of it. Not just against the teacher, but against all the kids who watched and said nothing. To top it off, my Mom didn't believe me. Unfortunately, I didn't have my iphone on me back in the early 80's and can't prove any of this. I just sat there and took it, too. Where's my $500K to pay for therapy?

WR: Yup. They think that if you arrange the seats right and keep the kids busy that that will fix the problem. Well, pussy principals are that way. They are scared of parents and the school board. When you have a tiger principal, one who is almost as mean as the bad kids and doesn't give a fuck, also like the bad kids, then it isn't so awful. With those kind, all you have to do is say to the bad kid, "Sit in your seat, be quiet, and do your work or I will tell Mr./Mrs. Monster what you have been doing." If the administrator is doing his/her job, the kid will be trembling in fear.

I've worked under two tiger principals. One of them broke three wooden paddles in one semester (personally, I don't back corporal punishment). The other one showed visible glee as he stood offenders in the corner with their noses touching the wall throughout the lunch period. If they moved their heads he yelled at them. At the end of lunch period they were allowed a couple of minutes to eat. It was a beautiful thing to see. I only got to substitute there. I wanted to work there full-time, but unfortunately that school didn't have much of a turnover rate. Probably because the kids acted like civilized human beings or else they feared public humiliation.

I've been a public school teacher before, and most of the kids are good people. But as they say, one (or four) bad apples ruin the barrel. Imagine trying to teach kids with that kind of stuff going on, and you go to the pussy-ass administration for help and they tell you, "Classroom management!" As if little sociopaths give a flying fuck about classroom management.

n today's world kids beating the shit out of teachers has been known to happen. Maybe she has actually seen that before, we don't know. I know if I were a 68 y.o, hearing impaired woman I would have second thoughts about saying something to the little sociopaths! . My daughter knows *without a doubt* what would happen if she were found to be involved in something like this. God I am getting tired of repeating this, but since it was on the last thread I'll give it a pass. It was NOT the first time this happened, and that information comes straight from HER mouth. In her first interview she said that this had happened many times before in this school year, to her and other kids, but this episode was the worst. She admitted she never reported ANY of it, probably out of fear of losing her job. Why? Because she WASN'T DOING HER JOB. If she couldn't handle it, she shouldn't have taken the responsibility.

Other children relied on her to keep them safe on that bus. Would you feel that your children were safe with this woman as the only buffer between them and these little monsters?

BTW-- she didn't even report this incident, someone else posted it to the internet. Makes you feel real warm and fuzzy that the safety of other children was being guarded by such a stand up gal.

Doncorleone, you are absolutely correct. I'm not a teacher, but I sympathize with those that are. It's not what it used to be. Same lame salary to watch a bunch of other people's problems. It's like being a babysitter in a juvenile detention center. All of these parents say 'oh MY kid wouldn't do that!' Guess what? It IS their kid and a bunch of other unsupervised thugs whose parents never watch them. I see how they act when I volunteer for school functions. I think most (not all) teachers deserve MUCH more than they get paid for what they have to put up with. It's not a cakewalk by any means. I'm surprised teachers can actually teach these days. No wonder they are going nuts!

Vapidflush, she is partially deaf and wears a hearing aid, so she didn't even hear a lot of what they said until police played it back for her. If you watch the entire video, she did ask them to stop and told them if they didn't have anything kind to say, they shouldn't say anything at all. Whenever she tried to control the situation, the monsters berated her more. She is an elderly woman ; what could she POSSIBLY have done to defend herself (besides pull out a gun)? If this had been a large, military-type man, those bastards would have NEVER said one word to him. Guaranteed. They are so tough putting a granny down. Their balls probably haven't even dropped yet.
I also wanted to add that I watched the movie 'Project X' tonight. I see now where this generation gets the idea that it's ok and funny to go against authority. The entire movie made it look cool to give the middle finger and disrespect everyone from the police to the little old cashier lady in the supermarket. This world is going to hell. doncorleone, I hear you. My BIL is a history teacher in a crap area. He was beaten down by kids coming in with ipods, expensive sneakers and diamond earings yet often told him they had no penclis or paper. He had students that had lots of truancies yet when reported the parents were annoyed that they had to cancel their hair appointments to come in and be told about it. He was told on many occasions by the parents that it was "his problem" to deal with their kids. It all goes back to the parents. The parents raise little shits then it's our problem to deal with them.

I don't think us teachers hate kids - but it is an enormously stressful job, and most of the time it is the teacher who gets blamed for bad test scores, bad grades, homework policies, etc. It seems to get worse every year. Some public school teachers I know get screamed at, seriously, if their students score poorly on standardized tests. My 60 year old aunt had that happen to her - her 25 year old boss SCREAMED at her for poor tests scores. It's crazy how the administration kowtows to parents all the time. But teaching can be and is for most of us an incredibly rewarding profession. One time a parent sat in on my class and said she could never handle doing my job ever, she was amazed at the stress I endure. Telling some kids to follow the rules? That is laughable, some of them don't give a flying fuck about rules. You really think if you say "follow the rules!" these kids will say "omg, I am so sorry teacher, I will follow the rules from now on." Good God, get real please.

She didn't have to mirror back what they were saying to her. She could have calmly (jesus, I haven't met a calm teacher in a very long time) told them to stop or refer back to the bus rules or something. If every person took what a child said to them personally, there would be no more children.

Something needs to change, clearly, but teachers calling children little shits left and right might not be a good place to start?

I sincerely hope this whole thing opens up a conversation with parents, teachers, administration etc etc about bullying and how to handle these "little shits". Cameras in all the rooms? Anyone that has EVER worked in the US school system knows that your hands are completely tied when it comes to shit like this. You can't do ANYTHING to these little shits without YOU getting in trouble from your employers and from the asshole parents.
Thankfully I myself have never had to teach little devil children, but several of my inlaws are teachers and every single one of them have horror stories about demon children they had to deal with.

My aunt is an elementary school teacher and she is SO high strung and angry ALL the time. She uses some interesting words to describe "her" kids and parents, too. I dread holidays where she corners me and tells me how each and every one of those little shits don't deserve her awesomeness.

This is all very very sad. All of it :(

Anything this woman did back to those kids would have gotten her SUED. I know because I'm a teacher and these fucking parents are nightmares. Their kids are maggots and they condone and encourage their behavior. I hope these pieces of garbage hang their heads in shame forever and I hope this poor old woman gets a million bucks because she deserves it. How dare they talk to her like that? My grandmother is 68 and she is tired and sick all the time, do you think she had the strength to defend herself against them? She's probably just trying to get through the day. So FUCK YOU ignorant people saying she could have done something because there was nothing she could have done.

I am quoting our Bus and Transportation rules in the school handbook:

"Anything that interferes with student safety will not be allowed. This includes: fighting, profanity, abusive language, toy guns," etc.

"For safety reasons, it is absolutely necessary for each and every student to obey their bus driver. When a student cannot follow the rules on the bus, the Administration has the right to suspend him/her from riding the bus. It then becomes the obligation of the parent to transport the student to and from school".

If grownups should fight back and if they don't it's partly their fault, then why do bullying policies and harrasement in the workplace laws exist? Because sometimes there are situations where a person alone cannot do much in their specific situation. Millions of women are battered because maybe they can't fight back. Just like I said before, I work in the school system and believe me, situations in that environment are not black and white, so unless any of you work in schools I do not think you have the right to judge this lady. I "fought back" many times and absolutely NOTHING changed. And I am a complete hardass.

Yes, this sucks. Kids can be horrible. I think most of us were bullied at one time or another (I vividly remember several kids that TO THIS DAY if I saw them, I would still be angry at them) and we've all probably bullied another kid at least once. The difference is this is a grown woman. Hard of hearing, yes, but mentally challenged? No. I agree with a few of you that she should have used her authority, whatever that was as a bus monitor, to shut this down. Any adult that works in a school should have the ability to discipline or at least reprimand... the fact that she didn't is strange. She is there to keep kids safe, she is an adult in the situation... therefore she should be able to open her mouth and tell the kids to quit it. If one was going to jump in front of a moving bus she would have done something... why didn't she do anything in this situation? If two kids were fighting each other or calling each other names would she have stopped it? Would she know how to stop it? Even with the talk of lawsuits, the school authorities "passing the buck", shitty parents and backlash... an adult that works in a school should know how to handle this. I feel like the insane amount of guilt money being thrown at her, the interviews and the interest in this story is a little odd... is it just because it was caught on video? Why is this story more interesting and important than the ones where bullied kids have to change schools or kill themselves because of the bullying? What makes her, or this situation, so special?

I know I'm going to get shit for this but, what a victim. "I'll probably never see that money" and "I'll take my family to Disneyland but I know a few who WON'T be going... *oops face*" and coming up with punishments for those kids while almost crying. I dunno... I know I sound like an a-hole and I'm NOT saying that she deserved this but... there's a woe is me thing going on with how she talks. I could be wrong but, something tells me that things like this happen to her all the time. We all have one or twelve of those facebook friends who can't seem to have a good day EVER and who never take responsibility for themselves or their actions and they love drama. You know the ones... no matter how many times you give them pity or sympathy or return their over 200 super sad texts at 2am, they still seem to run into problems and the world is always out to get them. I sense this in her. Throw yer stones.

Karen is not a kid. Period. Now, if this was a little 5-10 year old and the exact same thing happened, I may sign up to buy that kid a pony or just flat out adopt her.
