Tammy Lynn Michaels Still Wants More Money
Remember back in 2010 when Melissa Etheridge's ex-wife Tammy Lynn Michaels brought the melodramatic starving street urchin theatrics in a blog post where she said that she's barely surviving on the $2,000 child support she gets every month and that she's nourishing herself with tap water from a neighbor's garden hose and dirt pies? That poem was one of my favorite things from 2010, because every time I read it that Sarah McLachlan song started playing in my head as I pictured Tammy Lynn staring up at me with weak, hungry eyes. Well, that "SCREW THE STARVING CHILDREN OF THE WORLD, WHAT ABOUT ME?!" rant must've paid off, because sometime between now and then a judge upped her child support to $23,000 a month! But guess what? It's still not good enough for Tammy Lynn.
TMZ says that Tammy Lynn filed papers in court claiming that it's not fair that she's getting ONLY twenty three Gs a month while Melissa is making over $177,000 every 30 days. Tammy's savings is all dried up, she'll need "extensive retraining" if she joins the workforce again and she says she's used to the luxurious lifestyle she lived while with Melissa. Tammy also accused Melissa of brainwashing their children to hate her and now the kids won't even give her a hug (Tammy says that like it's a bad thing).
Melissa is fighting back by filing her own papers claiming that Tammy accidentally burned one of their kids with a cigarette and refuses to give her 50/50 custody because she didn't give birth to them. Melissa also attached this email that Tammy allegedly sent her ass:
You have to support so many households because YOU BROKE SO MANY HOUSEHOLDS, silly. If you had decided to have one ounce of integrity/honesty as a person or partner, you would NOT be in this predicament. Think about it.
I know Tammy Lynn is a crazy, delusional, money-hungry drama queen, but I love the game she's playing. You have to respect a hustler who went from eating dirt pies to eating dirt pies stuffed with filet mignon and it's still not good enough. I love how Tammy says she needs "extensive retraining" to get a job. I could lick that line dry. Wasn't Tammy an actress? What kind of retraining does her ass need? If cardboard person Blake Lively can do it, so can she.
But Tammy really does need more money a month. I bet the cigarette she accidentally burned her kid with was a Marlboro. Marlboro are for the poors only! Tammy is the kind of woman who should only be sucking on platinum-tipped skinny cigarettes imported from Monaco. Melissa is seriously A MONSTER for doing that to Tammy.

Lavish child support payments by the wealthy are meant to keep the CHILDREN in the lifestyle to which they became accustomed, not the ex spouse. As long as the children are in a comparable home with comparable food, clothing, education, activities and entertainment, the custodial parent could be walking around in Goodwill clothes and Walmart shoes and not be entitled to a fucking thing more. Tammy should have had a better lawyer if she wanted spousal support.

I agree with the ex. If Melissa were a man, she'd be paying about 25% of her income to the ex-wife and kids. Sounds like a lot to most of us, but a house in a decent part of LA, some extra activities for the kids, top notch health insurance plan, etc. eats it up pretty fast.
And Melissa is a serial home wrecker. Being female and poster girl for the gay community isn't free license to act like a dick.
I say pay her. She had to do without for many years now on a measly 2K a month in cash but Melissa did pay her mortgage and her expenses along with the 2K in cash. Go for a big number and then the judge breaks it down but I wish her the best. She birthed her kids, she raises them while Melissa now enjoys her life. Not fair. Pay up!

I really wanted a fourth child (yeah, go ahead and hate, child and parent haters, see if I care!!) and my husband didn't.
I told him and yes and a no should always equal a no. Sure, he would have loved our fourth child but he should have the choice to say no.
Now I do think sometimes about wishing I had four (esp, a second son!) but if both of us didn't want it, then it wasn't to be.
I've also heard that a fairly (in the scheme of things) large percentage of men think they are the father of their kids when they are not.

Some couples thing that a kid will save their marriage. It temporarily might be nice, especially if both people wanted kids, but in the end, if you have problems, you have problems. For some reason people aren't smart enough to consider counseling before they do bringing a human into the world.

This is why no one, women or men or any other category, should ever stop working and have someone else paying the bills. Whether you have kids or not, but especially if there are kids involved. Chances are at some point you will have to support those kids yourself and if you have a gap in employment, guess what? Many of the people you will be competing with for a job won't have a gap and one of them will get hired over you every time.
Employers don't give a shit about why you chose to leave the workforce, or whether it was the "best thing" for your family. They prefer someone without a gap in employment. And is being unable to pay the bills really "the best thing" for your family now?

My fiance's exwife just stopped taking the pill and didn't tell him, even though he told her they weren't ready for a kid. He stayed until his daughter was about 18 months old and only stayed that long because of her.
In good ol' Georgia, dads pay 17-23% of their gross income for ONE child, regardless of the amount of time the child spends with the father. My fiance has his kid half the time and pays 23% of his gross in CS to the mother, on top of providing for his daughter's healthcare (also normal in GA custody arrangements). He can't make rent with all his bills (good thing he gets free rent) and CS. And he is not a spender, by any means. It's beyond unfair, but, under the law, Tammy has a point... (not sure what the CS laws are in CA though)
Based on what Jack said, it sounds like Tammy may actually be entitled to more than 23K a month.

Royalties, record sales, licensing agreements (people have to pay an artist to use their songs for advertising, television, movies, etc.) Some of my bands, who are like, "indie rock bands", make anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000 for a licensing deal to have their song on like, Grey's Anatomy or some shit.

Am I the only one who sympathises with the ex here? All I can see is that she gave up paid employment to take care of the children and is now in the lurch, and her ex can totally afford to pay up. I see your point. When one partner, in any relationship, gives up their career to be the primary caretaker of the children, that SHOULD be taken into consideration when alimony or child support payments are awarded. It doesn't matter if the partner is a man/woman.

I get audited every two years from the Office of Child Support Enforcement... 25% of my gross income goes to child support. I never go to a hearing of any kind, they file the paperwork with our accounting office and shit just happens.
25% of 177k is 44k... ouch, but still.
