I think quite a bit of the mocking comes from people not liking him before this happened (see the comments on the previous post about him) as opposed to making fun of mental illness in general. Ideally people probably should not make fun of him for having a breakdown, but it's REALLY hard to when you already have negative feelings towards the man.
From the couple of people I know of that are bipolar, this condition: rambling, naked, muttering or shouting to yourself and wild gestures, on the streets is classic manic episode behavior. Several times the people were picked up by police while doing exactly this. Taken to the hospital on a 5150 hold and family was notified. This happened when they refused to stay on their medication, which is common with bipolar disorder.

If your not famous, a 5150 hold will ruin your career. It's a misdemeanor and stays on record. It pops up on background checks and employment screenings. Most doctors try to refrain from placing a 5150 as much as possible because of this. So none of you go crazy and get naked unless in the comfort of your own home.
