Open Post: Hosted By Elizabeth Smart's People Magazine Cover
Here's kidnapping victim turned America's sweetheart Elizabeth Smart on the day she married her piece of a year Matthew Gilmour in Hawaii. Elizabeth Smart already got a free shade pass (good for one year) from me when she created an ice cold shield over her face that deflected Nancy Grace's concern troll bitchiness. Elizabeth Smart gets another free shade pass (good for one year) from me for this cover of People, because it's obvious that her wedding photographer was Glamour Shots! The only thing keeping this cover from being everything is a faux roman column in the back and a hot pink boa. I really hope People printed this issue on pearlized paper. It's the only way.

I just don't get it. She's lived a fairly private life. Why her, why now?? And more importantly, WHO CARES??
I'm late to this party, but I find the public fixation on this poor girl creepy as hell. I remember when she was one of People's Most Beautiful. Fixating on her good looks struck me as so bizarre given that some LUNATIC was obsessed with her, kidnapped her, and raped her! Ugh.

I've only been lurking lately but have been following ME's dilemma and wanted to ask: ME - this may have been noted before (and if it has, then just disregard) but do you think that your coworker is jealous that your boss reworked your schedule? I remember you discussing the fact that you were going to ask your boss about shifting your schedule and they accommodated your request. I'm a supervisor in an office full of women and can't believe the petty junior high crap that comes up at times. I've had employees ask to meet with me to vent about a situation they misconstrued (to the point of paranoia, no kidding) as being either favoritism to another employee, or persecution to them. I swear I've sat there thinking "Do we work in the same office because I have NO CLUE what you're talking about" - but it's very, very personal and real to them. Do you think this could be the case?

I have no idea since she's got the most lax schedule of all and only works 32 hours a week (4 days). Up until the last two weeks a normal day of work for her would be to come in around 8:30-8:45am, leave for lunch about 11:45, come back from lunch around 1:30 and leave again by 4:00-4:15. Off hours start at 8am - noon, 1-4:30p. Lunch is supposed to be a half an hour, but we keep the phones off for an hour so we can get some shit done.
OMG, such disrespectful comments. Elizabeth was taken from her bed in the middle of the night, chained to a tree above her home where she could hear searchers looking for her, raped daily by a "religious" nutcase who took her as his "second wife." I'm surprised she didn't get pregnant.
I think the whole world wishes her a happy and productive marriage. I sure do.

-Right after she was brought back into society, she began a relationship with one of her support workers and doesn't that say something...

We all carry our demons. I think it's unrealistic to think that after the 8 or 9 years it's been that Elizabeth Smart hasn't dealt with hers to at least the extent that she is moving on with her life.
She probably promised pictures to People in exchange for them keeping the hell away from the actual wedding. If she picked up some cash for it, good for her. She didn't ask to be a teenaged rape & kindap victim.

Nothing will ever truly erase or eradicate the memories. It's going to take a really strong, stable man to be able to understand her when she goes into post traumatic episodes on occasion. I didn't go through anything nearly as bad as she did and I still have PTSD that comes on sometimes because of a specific event that dredges up a memory or sometimes completely out of the blue. One day at a time is all you can do.

Why are so many people saying that she recovered so fast? For as much as she may never fully recover, this did happen quite a few years ago. How many years should pass before it's appropriate for her to move on with her life?

I have to agree with one of the posters here. She is a little young to get married. Her story of kidnapping was such a terrible one - she was amazingly strong. I am just curious as to how she could very well recover this fast. I realize this type of thing is always a process, one never "gets over it". Still, I hope she is doing OK. I swear, I meant to get them done before the big event, but just didn't have time and had hoped that filling them in with a matching shadow would camouflage the "situation" (as MK would call it).
