Open Grammys Post: Hosted By The Promqueeninator
If you're watching this mess on E! right now, then we're rolling our eyeballs in unison at Ryan Gaycrest playing the littlest therapist in the world by taking people by the hand and asking them in a quiet concerned voice about their memories of Whitney Houston. Lawd, I want to run to him, get on my knees and slap him in the face. We don't give three or zero shits about what Parasite Hilton's moment with Whitney was like. I'd rather have a conversation with a wet fart than watch Ryan ask that gutter skank Wonky about Whitney again.
Thankfully, my eyes stopped rolling and went to the back of my head after I this Russian American pop star named Sasha Gradiva (who sort of looks like an Xtina made of melted Play-Doh) sashayed by looking like the secret love child of T2 and Pink Prom Barbie as seen through the eyes of Quentin Tarantino. All these bitches are trying to out-CaCa each other (see: Little Red Riding Attention Whore), but Sasha did it on a budget with a clearance prom dress from Windsor Fashions, a can of chrome spray paint and toy guns from The Dollar Tree. I don't know who Sasha Gradiva is and I won't know she is tomorrow either, but all the foolery on her body is working for me. But I'm probably only saying that because I don't really see a gun strapped to her arm, I see the ultimate no-no poker.
Anyway, this is your Grammy Open Post if you're into it and I'll cover all the fuckery tomorrow, because I'll be too busy downing a doodybubbletini (vodka, Nesquik syrup and caramel lube ) while watching this mess.

You are comparing them because they are both British? Adele has now won Grammys for 2 different albums in 3 years. Not even close to the same.
You are right there are tons of talented musicians whose music will never be heard. My brothers being some of them. But Adele is talented, can sing, writes her own music and isn't a product of nepotism. There are many more people in the industry who deserve your shade.

All I'm saying is that I think it's ridiculous that an OK POP singer like Adele gets all this attention for being so "soulful" when there are black soul singers who don't get any recognition whatsoever and black music that does get attention is mostly because they're out there acting like jackasses (i.e. Jay Z, Kanye, Beyonce, Nikki Minaj, etc.) Adele is NOT on the same level as Dusty Springfield so please let's not go there.

@stefystef, I think I see some of the angle you're coming from. You want to see more African Americans represented in those genres. Heck, I want to see more African Americans, more Asian Americans, more Indian Americans, more of all kinds of people in all kinds of genres...but let's not make the mistake of only hoping for more of X Americans in the X American genre that those X Americans created and should "keep".
@Tonya —yea lol they should have had a DJ come on stage and break it down for ole' Glenn.
@stake spike— your aunt sounds alot like me haha.
It is not about other people taking music styles, it is about one group not respecting or honoring the music of their culture while other cultures have more respect and success with it.
With that said, what the hell was that Tony Bennett/Carrie Underwood thing? And I don' know who was talking that smack, I turned the channel.

I agree with genres belonging to no one. If we're ever going to get beyond prejudice we need to stop compartmentalizing everything by race. Talent is talent.
I remember back in the 70's channel surfing late nights and always making a point to catch Tony Bennett if he appeared on the Tonight Show. To watch him then you could see singing was a joy for him, he always had this twinkle in his eye.
Then again I did find out later that he loved weed.
@Kanderso,
Lauren Hill is touring again, she's supposed to do a show here in DC in spring, I know it'll sell out.
I knew some wouldn't understand the discussion of the change in the music industry, especially in the African-American Community.
If you aint living on my side of the tracks, you ain't gona see the world from my side.
Adele is not a soul singer, she is a pop singer. British pop for that matter, which is heavily influenced by African-American jazz, soul and R&B. Even the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Led Zepellin had to admit it.
I didn't take anything away from Adele. What I'm saying is that there are singer much better than her and there is good music going on out there, but they aren't played in 6 times an hour rotation on radio stations.
I see Adele as this generations Lisa Stansfield. Let me hear Adele's next album and I can determine her staying power. If she's the real deal. If you are questioning it, remember Fiona Apple? Nora Jones?

Wow, I feel sorry for Bon Iver, he seemed really nervous. And for a minute I thought he was going to start talking about "seven minute abs" like the hitchhiker from There's Something About Mary.

Love that movie! My aunt was a pothead so she'd take me and my brother to all those types of movies (Scary Movie, Billy Madison), even though they were totally inappropratie for our age. And yes she'd get high beforehand and be that annoying person in the theater laughing their ass of while everybody probably gave her a "this bitch" look.

White artists hijacking black style and getting credit for it is nothing new. There are many female black rnb artists out there making innovative, quality music and they are simply not being recognized by the mainstream. It's total BS.
***************************************************************
The hijacking of African and its Diaspora's music is nothing new, that's true.
What is upsetting to me is that we used to be the innovators and the act to follow and now you can't find any true artists getting air time, which I blame the music companies and the radio stations.
_____________________________________________
What constitutes hijacking? Would you say the same thing about a black country singer, or an Asian rapper? A genre of music can hardly be said to "belong" to one race or another, even if one race was responsible for bringing it into being. Adele, Amy Winehouse, Duffy, and other white soul artists are incredibly talented artists in their own right; they're making inroads into a genre that's traditionally dominated by black artists, but why is that necessarily a bad thing?
I'd love to hear new talented artists of ANY race get themselves out there. They can't rely on the record companies to do it for them; anyone can self-publish nowadays on Youtube and other social media without having to go through a middleman.

Not gonna disagree with you about country singers but everything sounds the same. Compared to the stuff I heard when I was growing up (that stuff you see on tv at 2am) today's country artists are just as slick and shiny as those in r and b and pop. Like comparing your first real hamburger to a Big Mac, y'know?
Check out my man Glen Campbell.

I like mainstream country well enough to listen to at times, but I really love country that tends towards bluegrass. I agree that most of the stuff on country radio today is pretty similar and pop-ish.

Best New Artist? Justin Bieber! Justin Bieber! Justin Bieber! Hard to believe it's been a year since that fun. You knew he'd never be nominated again in his entire career.
You are trying too hard Carrie Underwood and it's bad.
patsy cline had one of the best voices ever - in any kind of music.
Not really a country music fan, but I do like old school country with patsy cline, loretta young, dolly parton. Todays country music is really watered down country mixed with pop.
Jeez, have they even done the Whitney tribute with Chaka and Jennifer? And they're promising to bring back all those acts who've already sang? And they have awards to give out? Is 30 minutes left or is it half way over.
I only know about "rhinestone cowboy" because of the movie high school high. Anyone know what I'm talking about lol.
Even with Alzheimers, Glenn Campbell is better than any act tonight.
And he's singing LIVE!!!! That's how you do it, you untalented slobs!

Who were the two twats who couldn't be bothered to pick their stupid heads up from their Blackberries or iPhones or whatever the fuck and get off their asses to pay a little respect to Glen Campbell? I don't like country but I can pay respects to a legend in that genre. Jesus people are so vapid.
"White artists hijacking black style and getting credit for it is nothing new. "
ROLLS EYES...
oh please, Adele doesnt have to hijack shit. SO fucking sick of this GD whining and EVERYTHING is about playing the race card.. PROFESSIONAL VICTIMS.... save it.. Fact is, every so often we get a British white girl like Adele or Dusty Springfield who can SAANG with some soul & both artists would be quick to tell you their influences are R n B.. MUSIC IS MUSIC it doesnt HAVE a color..
I tell you whats "hijacking" black style & keeping great Black singers out of the spotlight is stupid GHETTO IDIOTS like Lil Wayne Jay Z & Kayne Wurst running around tone deaf calling each other "nigga" .. THAT DOG SHIT has drug the genre of R n B and HIP HOP to the dregs of gutter level stupidity, HATEFUL , Misogynistic TOM FOOLERY passed off as entertainment
just SHUT IT already.
Its not plastic surgery , its a medical condition!!
Love Elton John in high heels. Who's the girl?

Not into country much either. And there is a LOT of it!! :D!

Yeah, Sunday morning on CBS featured him this morning. He has to use a teleprompter to remember lyrics to his songs. Sad. Guy is really talented.
Katy Perry sucks. Why the fuck was she even there.
I am enjoying Blake Shelton. I actually didn't know who he was, then saw him as a coach on The Voice. I like that he actually does have a good voice. It's annoying when judges can't sing for shit (Steven Tyler).

Country music doesn't suck, but the new artists are not my cup of tea.
I like the old stuff.

Agreed. The schlocky pop-country stuff blows but gimme some Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard or Waylon Jennings any day.
I'm torn on Taylor Swift. On one hand, she seriously cannot sing...she's almost so completely tone deaf that it's painful to hear. But on the other hand, she's adorable, not really all that annoying like Taylor Momsen or Demi Lovato, and generally a good model. I guess she's aite.
