Vanity Fair's Annual White Girl Issue Featuring Two Non-White Girl
Vanity Fair(Skin) pushed our their annual Hollywood issue were they spread the supposedly freshest and hottest shit all over their cover. This year they put Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain on the cover, and pushed the non-troll Olsen, Elisabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Phil Collins' daughter and Brit Marling to the side.
You know, this issue is supposed to be the WHO'S FUCKING WHO of Hollywood, but mostly it's just the WHO?NOREALLYWHO? of Hollywood. And it was wrong of me to say that there are only two non-white girls here, because it's well known that Rooney Mara is half Vulcan and half Hot Topicanese.

And the non-white girls are always on the folded flaps too, never the cover.

For those who don't know any of these women; why are you commenting then?? All have at least a couple of high profile projects/films out. Anybody who follows movies and the entertainment industry knows them. Regarding comparisons of Noomi and Rooney...I know this is subjective, but I've read all the books, seen the Swedish film versions and Fincher's new US version. I think Rooney is better, more intense, more real. IMO, Noomi almost seems too withdrawn or "wooden" at times. Not saying she wasn't good, but pails in comparison to Rooney Mara.
Hubba hubba, the strawberry blonde with the champagne dress next to Rooney is a hottie Rita Hayworth..too bad they chopped one of her arms.
I assume that's Jennifer Lawrence?

Does anybody actually like or even recognize Jessica Chastain? She's like Channing Tatum or Sam Worthington: ubiquitous for no discernible reason. Next on this list: Andrea Riseborough, whom everyone in Hollywood and the UK is creaming over but no one knows from Adam (except that she's a pretentious bitch).
Yeah, except possibly for Jennifer Lawrence and Rooney Mara (the former because she's actually talented and has a personality, the latter because she has talent but is already filthy rich so doesn't "need" to become a huge star), all of these hos will totally be forgotten in a couple of years. The Gretchen Mol comparison is apt (and shows how munching under Harvey Weinstein's fat belly will get you nowhere fast - bleh).

Definitely agree. I don't think Mia W. is going to "make it" longterm. She's cute but her almost dowdy body doesn't match her face, and she's boring and seems kind of a self-important. She also definitely needs to go back to long hair. I like short hair, but she sort of looks like a guy I dated once and the short hair doesn't help.
Jennifer Lawrence... I watched Winter's Bone, and she was good in it. But I still just can't with her in the Hunger Games movie. She's definitely too tall, too full-and-healthy looking (not that she should look emaciated, but J.L is too fleshy), her face is too puffy... I guess her acting won't be bad but visually she is just nothing like I would have imagined the character to be, even despite the relatively vague physical descriptions in the book.

Mara was "book Lisbeth";Noomi was her own Lisbeth. There was a big difference between the way the character was originally written and the way she acted-and in that film, it worked. I think the Swedish GWTDT film was a hit because of her charisma. (The other performance I liked was Sven Bertil-Taube as Henrik Vanger. Such a beautiful voice.)
Wouldn't it be great if Noomi Rapace has roles written just for her? That would make her shine for sure.

Paula Patton can go back to directing or producing if she isn't successful as an actress.She isn't just another LA beauty. Jessica Chastain is very talented.
Overall, the second film of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was excellent,technically sharp and a skilled adaptation of the novel. Rooney Mara surprised me with a great performance, though I'm not sure if the credit goes to her or to Fincher.
Before anyone shoots me for this,or calls me a lazy American idiot who refuses to read subtitIes,I own the Swedish film and all three novels by Larsson. Noomi Rapace is sexier,better looking and more experienced as an actress than Mara,but I can't say one Lisbeth was better than the other.
Except for Rooney Mara and Elizabeth Olsen, I have no clue who the fuck any of these people are.

Chastain is the only one who looks halfway decent. Why is Rooney Mara suddenly hot shit? She's more pretentious than Goopy & Natalie Portman combined, and she always looks like she just smelled a fart. Her face is just not attractive at all. I am SO glad you mentioned this. I absolutely HATE those commercials. It is like she cured freakin cancer. It is just weight loss. SURE, it is incredibly hard, but it is not climbing a mountain. Uggh. Shut up already!
VF hid the women of color under the fold. Magazines are afraid to put non-whites on the cover b/c they say it hurts newsstand sales (and sadly, the numbers appear to back that claim).

I think a lot of these girls are very talented except for Paula Patton. She's marginal and she ain't that young (36 or 37) so kudos to her publicists for getting her on this cover. I've never seen the non-troll Olsen (isn't it funny how a few tweaks can improve someone's looks) in anything, nor I seen Phil Collin's kid or Adepero (never even heard of her) so I can't speak about their talent or lack thereof

Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain are really talented and have a chance at long careers, IMO. With the others, it's questionable. Though I did like Brit Marling's "Another Earth".

I don't mind Jessica Chastain at least the woman is in her 30's and seemed to have worked her way through the Hollywood system by paying her dues in theater and actually going to college. Unlike many of these nepotist, daughters of privilege aka Rooney Mara, the Olsen, and Phil Collins daughter. All in this position becuase of family and parents. BTW, they made Paula Patton look white washed as hell though she is half white. So there is really two women of color in this shoot. I like her as well she has paid her dues,actually got an education and has some age to back her up.

It comforts me, too. My maternal grandfather had tons of books and I used to love sitting in his big chair by the fireplace in his book room and read those old books. The smell was just so calming and comforting.

The digital age has killed the printing industry in general, look at how many newspapers are barley hanging on because of the Internet. In 5 years there is suppose to be something like 40% less paper books around the world.
