Well..it's swell that wealthy one percenters like yourself can spend the afernoon on their Yacht jacking-off dolphins, but a lot of underpriviledged kids don't ever get to see the Ocean let alone get drunk and throw empty beer cans at the sea mammals. So, going to the park and doing some drugs and turning up their ghettoblasters to dance near the little pool is the best they're going to do. Have a nice life, Trump.
Obviously genes don't magically disappear, but the truth is, if nature is left to it's own devices, if the gene causes a defective problem, the animal is less likely to survive, hence mutts tend to have the hardiest of constitution. The dogs with the healthy genes survive.
Purebred dogs are bred for PRIMARILY physical characteristics, which very often might be on the same genes that cause health or mental problems. So they essentially breed in the sick and crazy.
The only minor exception are working breeds, where certain personalities are bred.....but even then the real working dogs look "substandard," but tend to be 100 times healthier than those sad, inbred creatures they show in the ring.
It always baffled me why people HAVE to have a purebred. One of my childhood dogs was a big girl, mix, with the personality of a lab that lived to be 17, with few if any problems. Some people pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to support breeding a lab that can't even live to 10 to 14 years old, with health problems that actually cause the animal pain. It seems so sick.
I asked about the German Shepard dying over shock because the last German Shepard I met, the owner had paid thousands of dollars and the dog was the most nervous, neurotic sad dog I ever met.....she literally dove behind any furniture when anyone walked in. Of course she "looked" beautiful and "ideal" for a Shepard, but her spaghetti legs looks like they'd have issues in a few years too.

There's enough info out there that for some, deep touch pressure is therapeutically beneficial and calming for those susceptible to anxiety (including autism, ADHD, college students, and animals).

Dolphins can't handle hearing really high pitched noises that interfere with their sonar so its no wonder this poor little dolphin died from overexposure to it :(
Has anyone seen the movie The Cove? It is a very informative documentary that talks about the dolphin slaughter in Japan and its horrible. There is also a really sad story about what happened to the dolphin who played Flipper and the truth about what really goes on at Sea World (the dolphins there are NOT treated as humanely as they should be). Google these stories for more info..

my son is not autistic, but he used to have some mf-thrashing tantrums when he was real little. i tried the "hand-in-hand parenting" style of the strong hug while he was thrashing around. it was a weird thing to witness and my husband found it total bullshit, but it worked like a miracle. my other son, no way.

My SIL got one of those vests for her dog who has terrible anxiety issues. The dog does show some improvement when she's got the thing on, but she's not as chilled out as the dogs in the commercials. My aunt says that similar vests were used on her autistic son when he was a small child in therapy.

Seeing them do stuff in their own natural habitat is much more enjoyable than watching them follow commands in some amusement park pool.

So sorry Jack. My own Black Lab didn't have any "genetic mental issues". It was simply the sheer volume of fireworks. Dog's hearing is four times greater than ours, so imagine the crack of those fireworks times 4. There was nothing to learn to cope with there, these poor animals are in pain.
ETA - And dolphins hear in a frequency range 7.5 times wider than the human.

My little doggy is freaked out by thunder, although we're always inside my home during thunderstorms, she whimpers and shivers and clings to my foot and looks totally terrified.
What this dog a purebred by any chance? Just wondering what else could have contributed, maybe genetic mental issues? I have a slew of rescues and fosters at my house, some with traumatic pasts, and while they don't like loud noises, they eventually learn to cope with stress....after all there's always stress in life. My neighbors are crazy about fireworks and pull them out every chance they get....and I mean right next door, in the alley, the shells land on my deck, on my roof, on my head.....so fucking annoying. But animals get desensitized, they still get nervous, but as long as they're kept safe, they realize nothing happened to them, so the next time, they are less scared. Granted they aren't dolphins trapped in a small enclosure.

My German Shepherd, Max, had to be put down after a nervous breakdown on the 4th of July because of the neighbors shooting fireworks. He HATED loud noises. The vet said he completely lost his mind beyond repair. I cried for days.
I remember being in college and going to a Fourth of July pool party/rave and my friends bought,what they thought was E,but turned out to be basically Flinstones vitamins. LOL. Serves them right, I wouldve have been the only straight one (I don't believe in altering your mind in any form,except with alcohol lol) if that stuff had worked.
