Mariska Hargitay And Viola Davis Adopt A BABY!!!!!!
That headline does make it sound like Mariska Hargitay and Viola Davis adopted one baby friend together, and will either move into one house to raise their baby together or will pass the baby back and forth like a divorced lesbian couple that was never together in the first place. That headline is dipped in wishful thinking, because I'd like to think that there's a baby friend out there who will get dazzled by Mariska's sparkly maple syrup highlights one minute and then get lost in Viola's Lauryn Hill impersonation (I really thought that was Lauryn Hill in the picture above) the next. But nope! They each adopted their own globs of slobber.
Mariska and her husband Peter Hermann adopted a newborn son over the summer, just six months after they adopted their daughter Amaya Josephine. Mariska's adoption application must have been notarized with the wet kiss of St. Angie, because a week after their paperwork processed they got the call. Mariska tells People, “We never in a million years thought it would happen this quickly, but something inside of us knew that this was right, and we said, ‘Yes, yes, yes!’" Mariska and Peter gave their second son (they have another son named August) the boring ass name of Andrew Nicolas Hargitay Hermann. Expect them to form a toddler pop group called The Three As in a few years.
Viola and her husband Julian Tennon also told the celebrity magazine equivalent of an IT'S A GIRL! garage door banner, People, that they adopted a newborn girl like six seconds ago. They named her Genesis after Genesis from The Real World: Boston, I'm assuming! I can't wait until Viola's Genesis is old enough to plaster her own Genesisisms on the wall of her living room just like the reality jewel she was named after.

This is purely anecdotal, but I'd say that 90% of the adopted kids I know are messed up (addiction, big emotional problems, etc.). While I know some royally fucked-up bio kids, I'd say that on the whole, adopted kids are way more likely to have issues.
But I'm not saying it's always genetic. Sometimes it's the parents who adopt that are the ones who fuck up the kids. I know a couple of women who adopted little girls from China. I have NO IDEA how they managed to pass the psych evals because they are almost Courtney Love level crazy. Growing up, we knew some crazy fundie Christians who thought they were doing a good thing by adopting children, but they really just fucked them up with their fire and brimstone preaching.
And then, it must be absolutely sucky to be a different race than your adoptive family.

I used to teach Pre-K and I would just see so many kids that would have biological parents that would treat them like shit...and I worked in a school with wealthy/rich kids. Where the kids barely saw their dads and the moms were more interested in doing "charity events" than actually caring for their kids and then when the summer rolled around they would ship their kids off to summer camp (I would also work at summer camps during the summer for extra cash) and it would be the same thing. The kids would be in affluent families with their biological parents and would still have major issues...the junior high kids would be so excelerated; they were taking drugs, being sexually active, and had little to no respect for authority...I'm not saying all the kids were like this but the majority of them were. And these were the "priveleged" kids. I say all of that to say this....kids can be fucked up no matter what situation they're in. So I think it's totally commendable to want to adopt a kid and provide him/her with a good home and good family. Hell, I don't care what kind of baby it is (white, black, boy, girl) you have to go through so much hell to even prove you can take care of a kid...almost wish people would do that for some of these schmucks that have kids on their own.

Not true, well not all the time! Both of my rescue kitties (the one I have now and the one I had before but she passed away) were adopted as adults. I prefer adopting adult kitties, they need lovins too and they mostly don't require the close supervision younger animals do.

Other children adoption brokered by a lawyer or adoption agency. Fact is not too many white women will leave their baby in government custody or have their newborn taken away from them ,not the good babies, they usually opt for adoption agency or broker. The broker or adoption agency usually makes out with the largest portion of the proceeds, mother get some nominal amount.Sure they are doing what's best for them and the child, but it is what it is.

She met with them, and money was never discussed. She didn't receive any money except for reimbursement of her ob/gyn copays and I think prenatal vitamins. The adoption agency had fees, because they have operating costs. I have a different beef with them because the agency and adoptive parents lied to my sister to get her to sever her rights, and I feel if she knew they were going to allow the dirtbag bio father in the baby's life, she never would have signed. But as far as selling white babies to "high bidders", um, maybe you should stop purchasing your babies in an alley because that's not normal.

The people who adopted the child had to pay a substantial amount of money to register with that agency correct? Some people on here are so hateful. If I wanted to have a baby, at the end of the day the LEAST of my concerns would be the color or race of it. Or even the sex. Most people are happy to have a healthy baby period, as they hold all PEOPLE in the same regard. I would say that all of the children mentioned will have very nice lives.

Agreed. Shelter animals make the best pets, hands down. With the exception of one of our cats. We got her from a pet store, not knowing she came from a kitty mill. :-( She was the runt and has had serious health issues but she is a fighter and has the best personality! Other than that, all the pets in the Dog household came from shelters or were strays.

as long as you're aren't using baby friends as accessories, its all good. the age thing is interesting. In the UK, a good friend of mine could NOT adopt a baby because there can't be more than 45 years difference between parent and child.

And, people are always blaming fucked up kids on something/one. If the kid is adopted, that must be it; if they come from a broken home, that must be it as well. And if neither of those apply--i.e. coming from a home with two biological parents--it must be the video games and rappers. It's ridiculous to be honest. A combination of things go into why kids are bad ass hell or why some turn into serial killers. Trying to blame it on one thing is ignorant and silly.

I think it really depends on whether the baby was adopted as a baby, or the baby went through hell the first 5 or so years of life with abusive bio parents, got taken away and then adopted. I know a few Asians adopted by white couples as babies and they seem to have adjusted fine.
I don't know, you guys know about my adoption agency issues, so there really is no perfect answer. I have to believe that my nephew is better off with his adoptive parents, and that they will eventually see his destructive piece-of-shit bio father for the bad influence he is and stop the back door visitation against the wishes of my sister who chose them, trusted them, and wound up almost committed while carrying their son to term.

I saw Mariska and her new baby at a party in the Hamptons over Labor Day weekend (the Hekkis are fancy, y'all!). She wore it in a bjorn the whole time. It was cuuuuuuute.

When I still had my second-hand store job, we got a bunch of those bjorn/papoose things in that were still sealed in the boxes. Hubby and I bought them all so we could have his and hers snuglis for everyday of the week when we have a baby.
While I agree it's unfair that celebs seem to be able to adopt so quickly...I still think it's great that she did. I want to adopt so I will probably change my thinking when it takes me 10 years...but still, I am glad that these babies will have a chance at a better life.
