Long before the Glittery Gays of YouTube were squirting out ass swishing gems every hour on the hour, there were little things called MTV, VHS video cameras and Priority Mail. When Madge’s True Blue came out in the late 1900s, MTV held a contest where they called on hos from around the country to make and submit their own video for the song. Back then you couldn’t just slip on your mom’s sexiest Christmas party dress, glue sequins to your nipples, twerk your dick in front of a webcam and call it a day. You had to put some real effort into it, so that contest was a big deal.

Growing up, basic cable and non-generic soda was for rich people so I had to watch all the contest entries at my friend’s house. It feels like I barely got up from her maroon Berber carpet 5 minutes ago, because that’s how long that contest was. They showed nearly every entry and I watched all of them. My friend’s mom would come in from doing errands or whatever, see me still sitting there, roll her damn eyes like “It’s going to take me hours to vacuum that bitch’s ass print out of my good carpet” and walk into the next room. Didn’t she know this was the most important thing to me in the world (next to my autographed Stacey Q poster)?! Why was that living room so meaningful to her? They had TVs in other rooms! Why did she want to be in the living room so badly? Was it because the Laura Ashley wallpaper did things to her emotions and she wanted to be alone with it without the Madge’s voice masturbating her ear drums something wrong on a loop? These are the questions I asked myself.

Below was the winning entry and it was also my personal favorite, because the main chick was like a decholaed chola.
