Tina Fey On Tracy Morgan's Rant
Alec Baldwin has already responded to Tracy Morgan's fire-breathing sermon against gays with a Tweet shrug and now Tina Fey and the head of NBC issued their own statements since some people were wondering What Would Liz Lemon Do?
The head of NBC said that he was happy Tracy apologized and that they don't agree with hate or violence towards anybody (except Conan O'Brien). Since the NBC peacock is as gay as the NBC peacock, he went on to say that both the network and 30 Rock accept everybody (except Conan O'Brien) so Tracy's comments were against what they believe in.
As for Tina, she put it like this:
“I’m glad to hear that Tracy apologized for his comments. Stand-up comics may have the right to ‘work out’ their material in its ugliest and rawest form in front of an audience, but the violent imagery of Tracy’s rant was disturbing to me at a time when homophobic hate crimes continue to be a life-threatening issue for the GLBT Community. It also doesn’t line up with the Tracy Morgan I know, who is not a hateful man and is generally much too sleepy and self-centered to ever hurt another person.I hope for his sake that Tracy’s apology will be accepted as sincere by his gay and lesbian coworkers at 30 Rock, without whom Tracy would not have lines to say, clothes to wear, sets to stand on, scene partners to act with, or a printed-out paycheck from accounting to put in his pocket. The other producers and I pride ourselves on 30 Rock being a diverse, safe, and fair workplace.”
Tina Fey should know that one of my shittiest ex-boyfriends slept 12 hours a day and always sat on the side of the table that faced the giant mirror in the dining room at Mimi's Cafe, so sleepy selfish dick bags can be hateful too. But what I'm getting from Tina's statement is that on the next season of 30 Rock, Tracy Jordan will become color blind which will lead him to only wearing rainbow colored clothing. Then Tracy Jordan's son Tracy Jr. will come out to him at around the same time he develops a Tourettes-like tick that forces him to stab his daddy in the knee with a rusty shank repeatedly throughout the day. Either that or she's saying that bitch better get right or he'll be lucky if he gets a job as Mel Gibson's understudy at the Westboro Baptist Dinner Theater.
And I just realized that typing "dining room at Mimi's cafe" was ridiculous. Like that shit was some fine dining.

I totally agree with you, I've always thought that homophobic men were so outspoken about hating gays because they knew deep down inside that they secretly enjoyed it. I'm willing to bet anything that ol' Fred Phelps from Westboro Baptist is a closeted gay man, its kinda obvious don't you think? Glad there's a scientific study out now that finally proves it:)

Now, Tracy's monologue was a bit of a different story. I wouldn't be surprised if he was drunk or high and a closet case. It was really over the top, and I think I, myself, would have walked out.
However, he is a COMEDIAN.
So, he's lost his gay fans. That's his problem.
Maybe he'll lose his 30 Rock job.
That show is going off the air soon, anyway.

I think that people will always make fun of things they don't understand as a means to mask their fear. Furthermore, If you dig deep enough, even the most political correct people will harbour some prejudices too. All human beings are both individuals and members of a group. The individual part of us dares to speak against discrimination of certain groups, the group part of us - our desire to belong - sometimes makes us say whatever in order to belong. I'm not excusing that behaviour, but merely explaning it. I do know that I find it easier to be tolerant of someone, when the distinction between group behaviour and personality is clearly recognizable. That's why I categorically refuse to belong to any group besides my family, be it a social group or a sports group. In threads like these my language skills are regrettably not up to the task, so I hope that you know what I mean.
P.S.: I hope that you and Fraggle can find common ground, because 'Centy in a constructive dialogue' is always such fun to read.

Sad, but true. I've lived a long time, taken my share of abuse for living my life (not that it ever came easy), but I have to agree here with Centaurious. There is always someone with a public platform who will disparage gays. It has always been so, and no matter what forward movement we make the fringe will always be there to denegrate. It doesn't look like an implant to me. It looks like Tracy's arm was pushing into her boob and making the make-up she used to accentuate her cleavage look weird. Either that...or she's had breast cancer and never told anyone and she's wearing a well-made prosthetic (because her other boob looks totally normal).

Tina Fey's comeback is good, but really, she gave this a$$hole the job & she knew what he was, so my sympathy for her only goes so far. Oh, I didn't know you hadn't read what he said. Hope I didn't sound too bitchy. I'm gay, and I have a sense of humor (I hope) about my culture. But this was beyond any standard gay joke. He meant every vitriolic word of what he said. And in this uber-pc culture we live in it's yet another slap to the face of gay men and women. Michael Knight said the n word, so whatever was left of his career evaporated. Mel Gibson spewed anti-semitic garbage, and his reputation never quite recovered. But because Morgan went after the last truly widely hated people in this country(and most of the world) he can just walk back onto the set when filming resumes and still go on tour to sold out theaters. Hell, he's probably gotten more fans because of this. So this all goes back to the main point: gay men and women are second class citizens, lesser than Blacks, Jews, Asians, and every other minority. We can be called fags who should accept a man's ignorant insults because "Hey! That's just comedy, don't be so uptight, you fudge-packing-piss-drinking-child-raping-lipstick-wearing-dick-tucking-anus-bleaching-queer!". I've seen the phrase "free speech" used quite a bit with regard to this and similar situations. Did I miss the part of the story where Tracy was hauled off to the clink by agents of the government after making his statements?
Just to clarify, no one is curtailing his free speech. He's apologizing because he'd like to stay on good terms with those who watch his show, produce his show, and see his act.
If he doesn't care, he's free to dig in his heels and make his living performing just for those who weren't offended by his comments. Just as those who were offended are entitled to bitch about it to their hearts' content. But if Tracy has some gay friends or coworkers, makes more money when gays and their friends pay to see him too, and has a wife who is distressed about jokes imagining the stabbing of their offspring, might be best to explain how the joke went too far and move on. Which he tried to do.
I've never been able to tell if he's just some perpetually inebriated guy whose ramblings turned out to be funny more often than not, or if he's a professional comic.
