Open Post: Hosted By The Saddest Pony In The World

My feeling is that if it is a group out in the open in Dlisted OP, in which a strong core group of people who have been chatting with each other for quite awhile and love books are sort of in control, assholes who want to fuck with the book club could be quickly dispatched (meaning ignored) if we all stick together.

I mean, who cares if some moron wants to say something stupid about the book?

Peole who truly love to read are not going to engage in an argument if they are enjoying a discussion about books with friends.

Meaning old friends, and new friends, I'm sure many more people would be interested in this and want to come on board, but if they were jerks, they could simply be ignored.

It wouldn't be like when one person is brutalized and other people hesitate to come to their defense, even if they like the person, because they don't know "who's behind the curtain," so to speak!

They would just pleasantly be ignored because it would be all about the book.

For people who care about books, anyone who talks shit or tries to start something would just not register.

Naturally, we'd all be on here talking about the book, but we'd also talk about other celeb shit, because we're all dirty ho's and we all know it, so whaddya say? :)

CSG is the head of the book club, she picks the first book.

We agree on a date to discuss it.

Whomever wants to read it and discuss it will meet in OP that day and night and discuss it, all day and all night, depending on our schedules.

Then, the next person will pick the book.

Obviously, we'd need to get together a list of Dlisted people who want to be in the book club.

We would go down the list, the next person always picks the book.

Really, we all know each other, and if another person wanted to be added to the list whom we didn't know, they could be added.

As long as they choose a valid book.

Their choice of a book would validate their validity in the book club.

Again, we can bs from here to eternity in OP and I'm sure we'd like MK to have the hits.

No one asked me (not that that would stop me from butting in) but have you all considered blogger? It's free, pretty damn basic, has a bunch of templates that could be used. For reference, see CDAN. You could have a couple of moderators/people who make a daily post or 2, and then everyone comments.

Jersey, not to be a jerk, but when I have an idea or suggestion I need a response to, I can be one of the most annoying clingers EVER.

SO here's my suggestion - AND PLEASE FORGIVE ME, MY BELOVED MK (who has the most delectable nose and succulent lips EVER on a male, it shouldn't be allowed) - much like you've set up OP, how about considering a dlisted book club page? Let's think about the positives:

1. A book club page will result in HUNDREDS of hits to the site because dlisters love books, and love giving their opinions on books;

2. Dlisters could start their own Facebook Book Club but this will divert hundreds (maybe thousands?) of hits from MK to a random FB page;

3. If you have a Book Club page, you can drive advertising of new books to ALL of those new, potential readers;

4. Celebrity stories often involve the selling of books - and we love to read trash.

MK doesn't have to sponsor it, but I feel like since he brought us together he should get first crack at the audience.

To all dlisters interested in an online book club, I have two suggestions regarding what we should do:

1 (THE MOST SIMPLE) - We could email MK and see if we (or let's face it, HE) could set up something like Open Post for people who love to read books and could use it like a forum to read, review and spout off regarding good books;

OR

2. Start a dlisted "Book Club" Facebook page where we could gather, suggest titles, review works, express opinions etc. I'm probably one of the most technologically illerate people on the planet, but I work with a computer geek/manwhore who would advise me on how to set this up for the cost of a gift card to one of his favorite restaurants (totally worth it if you all would sign up).

In fact, here's my proposal: I could ask him about setting up the FB page. After he gives me his recommendations, I'll post them in OP so everyone knows what we plan to do. Anyone who has a better suggestion (or a question re id security), can post it, and we'll hash it out in public until a solution is resolved. I'm not trying to complicate things, really only trying to set up an open forum where we could enjoy each others opinions.

Please post all responses, positive and negative, with suggestions on how to do this (1900 heads are better then none).
